Industrial Engineer 1
Applies basic Industrial Engineering concepts, techniques, analysis and decision tools to promote and implement changes in manufacturing, engineering and service operations. Develops models, data bases and spreadsheets to analyze data (e.g., statistics, operations research, engineering economics), and provide summary analysis and metrics as directed by higher level employees for consultation to customers (e.g., management, departments, suppliers). Applies basic industrial engineering techniques and concepts to product and process design teams throughout all phases of product lifecycle, resulting in a robust product design and work statement that meets program requirements. Researches, designs, develops, improves, and implements processes as directed to enhance schedule performance, lower cost, and improve quality, through the application of Lean and other Industrial Engineering concepts for large scale systems integration and asset utilization. Utilizes engineering methods (e.g., mathematical models, simulation, statistics) to assist in developing optimal process designs and efficient utilization of resources (e.g., facilities, personnel, materials, equipment) in the creation and validation of products. Analyzes and supports the design of the value stream, including capability, capacity (e.g., make/buy, supplier selection, risk analysis, supplier performance), throughput, work flow and logistics (e.g., critical path, lead-time, transportation, factory layout).
Competencies
GeneralTechnical• Analytical Skills
Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
• Assembly Process
Basic knowledge of assembly and production processes, manufacturing capabilities (e.g., composites, structures), and data needed for defining delivery configurations (e.g., design definition, program directives, engineering drawings, change memos, wiring diagrams and schematics, functional tests, supplier data). Ability to differentiate production (manufacturing) processes and requirements from in-service procedures and requirements.
• Engineering Economics Analysis
Basic knowledge of mathematics and the financial acumen to conduct business case analysis (e.g., cost benefit analysis, trade studies, benchmarking, design to cost, economic analysis, risk analysis, bid proposals).
• Information Technology Fluency
Basic ability to use personal computing hardware and software to enter basic project information, such as, task status, cost tracking, and constructing/building simple reports and presentation material as directed by higher level employees.
• Lean Manufacturing
Basic knowledge of lean manufacturing principles (e.g., value stream analysis, single piece flow).
• Operations Processes
Basic knowledge of the responsibilities and tasks performed by Operations departments and/or disciplines.
• Presentation Skills/Techniques
Basic knowledge of and ability to employ routine presentation techniques (e.g., posture, speaker's relationship to audience, use of intonation and props, use of visual aids and pacing).
• Process Measurement
Basic ability to identify and create qualitative or quantitative measures of success and failure. Basic ability to select key parameters and monitor progress, provide updates of performance, and plot trends over time.
• Production Systems
Basic knowledge of various production systems (e.g., flexible manufacturing systems, cellular manufacturing, U-lines).
