Data Center Engineer Lead

JOB SUMMARY:
Provide operational management and effective daily leadership and administration of the engineering team with the objectives of safely and effectively operating machinery and systems in a cost-effective manner. The Lead Engineer must ensure the highest level of professionalism, while meeting the client’s needs, with a strong commitment to achieving the goal of 100% uptime throughout the facility and within the Data Center. Provide oversight of Contractor’s and/or sub-contractors performing system maintenance and/or repairs within a Data Center and office building environment. Develops methods of procedures, conducts or oversees routine rounds and readings of the building and data center systems and their overall operations and procedures. Operate and maintain electrical, HVAC system pumps, controls, etc., and provide general building maintenance supporting the Data Center and all core functions. Will be required to perform rigorous documenting and work order data entry.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Extensive knowledge of operations, maintenance and repair procedures utilized to monitor operation and maintain refrigeration, water cooling and air conditioning equipment; boilers, heating, ventilating and hot water equipment; pumps, valves, piping and filters; other mechanical and plant equipment including UPS, Emergency Generator, pumps, fans, pneumatic/electrical controls, pressure-reducing valves, chemical testing and treatment, recordings; reviewing logs as necessary to assure proper operation of equipment; responsible for reporting any problems/malfunctions on an as need basis.
2. Understands the engineering design and operational aspects of the Base Building and Critical System Support Systems and Components.
3. Insures the timely performance of maintenance contract work, overseeing the fulfillment of equipment warrantee obligations by the installer and securing equipment manuals and drawings from the installers/contractors.
4. Keeps abreast of technological advancements and developments through continuing education programs and trade journals.
5. Support PM/RCM/PdM program.
6. Provide proper building and equipment inspections, repairs & PM tasks, utilize automatic recording devices correctly, and record such on a regular basis according to protocols in place.
7. Monitor daily production and quality, collect and analyze data in order to recognize trends and potential problem areas.
8. Works with the Facility Manager to budget for major capital purchases of physical plant equipment and provide proper specifications for such expenditures.
9. Attends management meetings with other department heads as needed.
10. Provides support before, during and after a disaster event.
11. Track operators hours and other direct project costs.
12. Interface with engineering teams to continually improve overall operations process.
13. Create, drive, and execute side projects that enhance the overall data center efforts.
14. Create tools to make processes more efficient.
15. Maintain positive customer and employee relations.


OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES:
1. Ensures compliance with all company/customer regulations, policies, and procedures.
2. Achieve performance expectations set forth as part of performance appraisal.
3. Communications with all team members to support the development of short and long range planning in support of the company’s goals and objectives.
4. Maintain personal tools required for your job to include an up to date documented personal tool lists. Required tool listing to be supplied as part of employment.
5. Provides training and support aimed at expanding the capabilities of the operations staff. Specific duties include but are not limited to: demonstrating the proper use and care of tools and instruments, giving hands on instruction in basic maintenance, safety and troubleshooting procedures, recommending relevant outside engineering courses for enrollment and instilling an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.
6. Meet physical requirements of the job. Physical requirements of the job will be provided to you prior to employment.
7. Must be able to work in a team oriented and safety conscious environment, adhering to UGL Unicco’s Safety Program criteria.
8. Accurate and timely administrative duties to include, but not limited to, time accounting and work order completion.
REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Education and/or Experience)

1. Minimum of a high school education, two years in mechanical trades or equivalent. HVAC and electrical engineering training helpful along with necessary certifications and licensing.
2. Ten or more years of experience as a plant engineer, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
3. Data Center mission critical environments (N+1) 5 + years experience
4. Pass pre employment mechanical and technical skill qualifications exam.
5. Demonstrated verbal/written communication skills
6. Good organizational skills to deal with a multifaceted job.
